When you’re struggling with chronic pain, it can have a debilitating effect on every facet of your life. If you’ve already tried several types of pain medication, and your pain is still recurring, you may consult a pain specialist. Many pain medicine centers today specialize in delivering an integrative approach to pain. Chronic pain is a problem best approached by treating the whole patient.

When your mind is overwhelmed by chronic pain, it can’t help but affect your emotions. It limits your social outreach if you’re hurting so badly that you don’t want to go out. When you question the persistence of pain, it invades your spiritual realm. By facing each aspect of your life and collaborating with an integrative team, you may find the best solution to relieve your pain.

Here are some of the solutions our team may use to work toward your pain management:

Acupuncture Treatments

Acupuncture has been used in Asia for centuries to reduce pain without medication. Acupuncture involves inserting tiny needles into strategic places in the body. The same website reports that acupuncture needles stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relief method.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractors use their knowledge of human anatomy to find the origin of pain. They believe most painful sensations originate from misalignments of the spinal cord. When the chiropractor finds the pain’s origin, they place their hands above the location and press purposefully inward and upward. These adjustments push the muscles and tissue forward to move the spinal bone back into alignment.

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is a surgery that uses transplanted bone to repair a damaged portion of bone, causing pain. When you have a broken bone that doesn’t heal correctly or have bone surgery that doesn’t completely heal, the result is likely to cause severe pain. By removing a piece of your upper leg bone and using it as a graft to heal the damaged bone, both surgical sites will heal with less pain.

Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion

This procedure is done for adult clients with spinal deformities. To correct their deformity, a surgeon will connect several vertebrae (fusion) to stabilize them in a straight line. When the space surrounding the spinal discs (the foramen) narrows due to the worsening of the deformity, surgical fusion is the best solution to relieve both the deformity and the pain it causes.

Ganglion Impar Block

Clients with chronic pelvic or rectal pain may have underlying serious conditions (such as rectal or pancreatic cancer) that cause that pain. The ganglion par block is a minimally invasive procedure done via IV with X-ray guidance. Medication is injected directly into the ganglion impar – a nerve cluster behind the coccyx. The medication can then be delivered directly to the source of painful sensations.
